Ramsey MacMullen Christianizing the Roman Empire

How is it that this tiny little band of Galilean fishermen changed the entire world? And he draws an interesting conclusion. The thing that really attracted the pagan world, more than anything else, all the documentary evidence shows this, was not the apostles preaching, not many people heard the apostles preach, and, for that matter not many pagans were familiar with the message until after they came into the Church, what attracted them to the Church primarily was the ministry of Exorcism. It was the most public display of Christian truth that a pagan would have encountered in the second century, public exorcisms. It remains true to this day. Exorcism is a powerful, potent demonstration of the power of God.
